Srinagar, March 8 (IANS) The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has put on hold the poisoning of over 100,000 stray dogs in the city following a hue and cry raised by animal rights activists here. The officials of the SMC had earlier planned to poison the stray dogs because many they have bitten many. Some of the victims died of rabies as there are no facilities to immunise the many stray dogs.

But now that animal lovers have raised an objection to the mass killing programme, SMC officials say they will sterilise the dogs with the help of voluntary groups that have come forward to help.
