Anand Sharma says there will be no curbs on freedom of mediaFebruary 18th, 2009 - 4:46 pm ICT by ANI
New Delhi, Feb 18 (ANI): Union Minister of State for External Affairs Anand Sharma today said that the government is keeping a strict vigil on the electronic media following the preparation of regulatory guidelines by the private broadcasters.
The guidelines were prepared by the National Broadcasting Association after the live coverage of Mumbai terror attacks in November last year.
Replying supplementaries in Lok Sabha, Sharma said that besides preparation of guidelines by all stakeholders, a committee has already been constituted.
He made it clear that government has no intention to curb the freedom of media.
“The government has focused on sensitizing media about the concerns of the security forces and administration in an emergency like the recent attacks,” Sharma added. (ANI)
