An artist paints the Tibetan ‘freedom struggle’ in Dharamsala
March 24th, 2008 - 5:49 pm ICT by admin Dharamsala, Mar 24 (ANI): Vivek Sood, a modern art painter conducted an art exhibition depicting the ‘Tibetan freedom struggle’ in Dharamsala.
Through his paintings, Vivek has attempted to support the Tibetan cause and show solidarity with the Tibetans fighting to return to their homeland.
The paintings are a reflection of the struggle of the exiles living in India and elsewhere, their quest to attain autonomy and their determination to return to their homeland, Tibet.
While depicting the peaceful and non-violent facet of the protests in his paintings, he has also highlighted the recent spurt in violent incidents.
“I support Tibetan issue. They want independence and they must get independence,” said Vivek.
At the exhibition, Tsering, a Buddhist and human rights scholar recalling the centuries old relations between Tibet and India said that he appreciated the effort of the Indian painter.
“This is the time when Indians should be more aware about what is happening inside Tibet. And these paintings for me is not only a caricature, but shows a sense of solidarity being expressed with the Tibetan people,” said Tsering.
He said that the ‘atrocities’ being committed by China against the Tibetans are uncivilized.
Tsering called for the attention of the intellectuals across the globe in support of the Tibetan cause.
Peaceful street marches by Tibetan Buddhist monks grew into the big demonstrations that Himalayan region has seen in nearly two decades, with anti-riot police patrolling the streets months before the Beijing Olympics. (ANI)
