Amy Winehouse escapes charges over drug video

London, May 15 (ANI): Amy Winehouse can breath a sigh of relief, for she will not face charges in connection with a video on which she looked as if she was inhaling fumes from a crack pipe.

Last week, the 24-year-old singer was arrested and interrogated in a police station in east London on suspicion of possessing Class A drugs in the wake of the secret film, reports the Sun.

However, the Crown Prosecution Service has reviewed the Grammy-winners case and decided that no charges should be brought.

Following an extensive police inquiry, a file was submitted to the CPS to determine if anti-drugs laws were broken, CPS spokesman Russell Hayes said.

We identified and considered two potential offences. Possessing a controlled drug and allowing premises to be used for the supply by others of a controlled drug.

The footage did not establish whether the substances were illegal drugs and, in the absence of any forensic opportunity or reliable evidence from any witness, we concluded we could not establish to the high proof required in a criminal court that they were controlled drugs, he added.

However, angry MPs, police and drugs campaigners slammed the decision, saying it sets an appalling example to kids.

Former Scotland Yard commander John OConnor said: Winehouse is cocking a snook at the law.

Shes openly taking drugs and getting away with it. Its an absolute scandal that nothing can be done, he added. (ANI)
