AMU professor found dead, suicide suspected
April 8th, 2010 - 1:54 pm ICT by ANIAligarh, Apr 8 (ANI): Dr Sreenivas Siras, a Marathi professor at the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) who was sacked for being gay, was found dead on Wednesday evening.
He is suspected to have committed suicide.
Siras was found lying on his bed in his private apartment outside the university campus after police broke open the door.
Some traces of blood were seen on the pillow. The body has been sent for post mortem.
On February 19, Siras, 64, was suspended by AMU Vice Chancellor P K Abdul Azis after some students caught him having consensual sex with a rickshaw-puller in his campus home, and sent the video to the university authorities.
Last week, the Allahabad High Court had revoked the suspension and ordered his reinstatement.
Last year the Delhi High Court had decriminalised homosexuality, but Aligarh Muslim University accused Siras of grave misconduct. (ANI)
