Amritsar police seize fake currency worth Rs 9,00,000
August 11th, 2010 - 1:15 pm ICT by ANIAmritsar (Punjab), Aug 11 (ANI): The Amritsar police have seized fake Indian currency worth Rs 9,00,000 from a goods train arriving from Pakistan.
The train pulled into the Atari Railway Station at around 3: 30 p.m. on Tuesday and the currency was seized at around 4:30 p.m. during a thorough check.
“We had this doubt in our minds and our Regional Assistant Commissioner Khosla had told this to me on the very first day. I have supported him completely,” said S M Akhtar, Additional Commissioner (Customs), Amritsar.
“The railway department did not agree with us and said that their trade transportation takes place in the evening as well. But our stand was that we would not rummage the train after 4-5 in the evening. This recovery is a result of that. I guess this is the biggest recovery in our tenure,” he added.
Akhtar revealed that of the total Rs 9,00,000 seized, Rs 6,00,000 was in 1,000 rupee notes and the rest Rs 300,000 in 500 rupee notes. (ANI)
