December 15th, 2010 - 2:11 pm ICT by ANINoida, Dec 15 (ANI): For the first time in India, Amity Institute of Advance Telecom Training and Research (AIATTR), Amity University organized an awareness seminar on “Digitization of Cable TV Distribution System” here on Tuesday.
The seminar was organised to conduct awareness for training and educating cable operators pan India about the need to digitize the cable transmission.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has come up with a key recommendation to digitize the cable TV distribution system and has fixed the deadline for the complete migration from analogue to digital cable services as December 31,2013.
This massive transition from analogue to digital requires training programmes and awareness seminars for the Local Cable Operators (LCOs) so they can understand the benefits of switching over to digital transmission and are braced up to implement the proposed change.Naseem Ahmed, Vice Chairman AIATTR said that there are over 550 channels in India and it is not possible to transmit all the channels through analogue transmission, on which the cable industry thrives at present.
“The recommended switch over from analogue to digital transmission is the need of the hour, which will not only improve the quality of TV channels but will also improve the broadband penetration, Tele- Health, Tele- education, E- Commerce services in the country,” he added. Sharing the need and benefit of analog transmission of Cable TV, Bhagwan D Khurana- CMD, Newgen Holdings and a telecom expert said: “Digitization of cable TV distribution system will occupy fewer frequencies and there will be enough resources left for IPTV. ” (ANI)
