Amarnath pilgrimage from June 29: Board
June 23rd, 2011 - 10:28 pm ICT by IANS
Jammu, June 23 (IANS) The Shri Amarnath Shrine Board Thursday announced the annual pilgrimage to the cave shrine, dedicated to Lord Shiva, will begin June 29, as the track would be cleared of snow by June 28.
“The Yatra (pilgrimage) will commence from June 29,” said the shrine board’s CEO R.K. Goyal, who trekked up to the shrine located at the height of 13,500 feet above sea level, in a press release here.
“All arrangements will be in place by June 28,” he said.
The announcement confirms the earlier schedule announced by the shrine board two months ago.
Doubts were, however, expressed over the start of the pilgrimage June 29 because of heavy snow on the tracks and uncertain weather conditions.
