Almost half of Brit kids ”want adult supervision on internet”
October 28th, 2008 - 5:35 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )London, Oct 28 (ANI): A new survey has shown that Brit children are taking their Internet safety seriously, and want adults to supervise them when they surf the web.
Nearly 45 per cent of those surveyed agreed that adults should sit next to or near young people when they are on the Internet, so that they could monitor what was being viewed.
Furthermore, two out of three of those questioned want pornographic sites and chat rooms on the web to be blocked or filtered.
The survey of 686 children aged between four and 20 also showed that a quarter of the respondents were of the opinion that kids should be taught basic internet safety to prevent them from falling for paedophiles.
The message here is simple - children are taking their Internet safety seriously, but many clearly dont feel confident that they can protect themselves on their own, Times Online quoted Dr Roger Morgan, director of childrens rights for England, as saying.
They want adults to take a greater role in overseeing their web use and to be told exactly what is safe, so that they are better prepared to steer clear of unsuitable sites.
Indeed many children suggested unsafe sites should be blocked completely so they cannot access them, he added. (ANI)
