Allahabad, Mar. 24 (ANI): Holy men in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, offered prayers and performed a fire ritual on Thursday for the Indian team that is taking part in the ICC World Cup 2011.

The priests performed the ritual for win in quarterfinal match that is being played between India and Australia on the pitch of Sardar Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad city in India’s western state of Gujarat.

“This Yagya (Hindu Fire Ritual) is being performed for India, which is playing in the World Cup. We made these 11 dolls as replicas of the 11 players and through prayers the players would be continuously passed energy and India will win,” said Radhashyam, a holy man.

According to the holy men the Yagya would be performed till India wins the World Cup.

“All Brahmins are performing Das Maha Yagya and it will continue until India wins,” said Ratan Mishra, a priest.

A billion dreams rest on the Indian team’s shoulders as they seek to become the second Indian squad, after the 1983 ‘Kapil’s Devils’, to bag the trophy and title in one-day cricket championship.

With arguably the best coach around in South African Gary Kirsten, led by the unflappable and charismatic Dhoni and boasting some of the best batsmen in the game, India have never headed into a World Cup with more swagger. (ANI)
