Allahabad Hindu seers threaten to boycott Magh Mela festival
December 19th, 2009 - 6:10 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )Allahabad, Dec 19 (ANI): Displeased over the sloppy preparations made by the State government for the Magh Mela, an annual bathing festival, the Hindu seers here have threatened to boycott the festival.
Magh Mela festival begins on December 31. The festival is observed during the month of Magh, on the confluence of rivers Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati.
Hindu seers expressed their anguish over the state of preparations.
“If the (state) administration does not co-operate and if their attitude remains non co-operational, we can boycott the mela (festival). We are mulling over the prospect. The preparations are incomplete. If the preparations remain incomplete, we will boycott the mela,” said Vishwanandji Maharaj.
The district administration however is confident that the work would be completed within the stipulated time.
“There have been some bottlenecks but we have removed them. Our preparatory work is going on in full swing and we will be able to finish it within the stipulated time -be it electrification or construction of platoon bridges; everything is being monitored,” said Sanjay Prasad, the district magistrate of Allahabad.
