Airport at Amravati not for my convenience, says President PatilDecember 12th, 2007 - 11:04 pm ICT by admin
New Delhi, Dec 12 (ANI): President Pratibha Patil on Wednesday said that the proposed new airport being built at Amravati is not for her convenience, but is part of the Maharashtra State Government’s initiatives for the development of the Vidarbha region. “The proposed new Airport is one of the various initiatives of the Government of Maharashtra for the development of Vidarbha region and not aimed at the convenience of the President,” a statement released by the Rashtrapati Bhavan stated.
Reports have appeared in some sections of the media that a new airport is being built at Amravati in Maharashtra for the convenience of the President, ignoring the interests of the farmers of the Vidarbha region. The reports are factually incorrect and misleading, the statement added. It also said that the President is very much concerned about the farmers’ issues in the country, particularly of the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra from where farmers’ suicides were reported.
“The President has already advised the Central Government for an early solution of matters related to debt relief of farmers. The President always insists on giving top priority to the progress and welfare of farmer,” the statement added. (ANI)
