New Delhi, Nov 13 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the principal constituent of National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Thursday struck an electoral alliance with the regional party of northeastern India Asom Gana Parishad (AGP).

Addressing a news conference in New Delhi today senior leader and the Prime Ministerial candidate of BJP L.K. Advani said that BJP and AGP will put up a united fight against the ruling Congress party in Assam.

The BJP and AGP will work together in the forthcoming elections to the Lok Sabha. On Wednesday all the parliamentarians of AGP met with Jaswant Singh at his residence, Sushma Swaraj was also present because she has been given the task of being in touch with other parties, said Advani.

Earlier in 2001, BJP had joined hands with AGP under the leadership of then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Insurgency movements for the past 50 years have ravaged Indias northeast region. The rebels accuse the Central government of neglecting their economy and supporting immigration of outsiders to tribal areas. (ANI)
