Manmohan Singh Raipur, Mar 30 (ANI): Maoist sympathiser Swami Agnivesh has criticised Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh for inviting his Pakistani counterpart Yousuf Raza Gilani in Mohali to witness the World Cup semi final clash.

“After Mumbai Terror attack, the Indian and Pakistani government never had any kind of Prime Ministerial level talks. Now they will be sitting together to watch the cricket match at Mohali. Is a game of cricket that important? India never showed any attempts to sit with Pakistan to ease out the issue. It is good that they are meeting but giving so much importance to cricket is not required, though, we know that the how the cricket match is being fixed,” said Agnivesh.

He further criticized the respective governments of India and Pakistan to over hype the game of cricket by choosing it as the venue for resolving the pending issues between the two countries.

According to reports, India-Pakistan match in Mohali had provided a backdrop for the two sides to take a pliant stance and resolve their differences as the match will come a day after the Home Secretary-level talks between the two countries.

India made a dramatic entry to the semi-finals this year, ending Australia’s 12-year run as World Cup champions with a thrilling five-wicket win in the quarterfinals while Pakistan beat the West Indies to reach the semi-finals.

India and Pakistan have faced each other four times in the World Cup. Though each time India has finished on top, none of the matches have been smooth and lived up to the hype of a classic India-Pakistan encounter.

The World Cup final match will be played on April 2 at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai. (ANI)
