Ahmedabad (Gujarat), Sep.18 (ANI): Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Lal Krishna Advani met former Gujarat Home Minister Amit Shah, a prime accused in the Sohrabuddin-Kausar Bi murder case, in Sabarmati Jail here on Saturday.
Shah has been sent to jail for his alleged role in the fake encounter of Sohrabbuddin.
On Sep.15, Shah was granted yet another exemption from appearing before the CBI Special Court through videoconferencing as he
was admitted to hospital on Wednesday morning.
Shah, who was to have been presented before the court, complained of eye irritation and other complications in the morning.
He was moved to the Government Civil Hospital where he was diagnosed to be suffering from blood pressure and eye infection.
He, however, was sent back to the Sabarmati central jail in the evening after treatment.
The CBI told Special Court judge A. Y. Dave of his admission to hospital and the court extended his judicial custody till
September 29. He was asked to be presented before the court through videoconferencing that day.
Mr. Shah was earlier exempted by the court from appearing in person on security grounds and permitted him to be presented
through videoconferencing.
This was the second time that the former Minister was admitted to the civil hospital since his arrest by the CBI on July 25.
On August 31, he was admitted to the hospital for a week after he complained of chest pain when he was due to be presented
through videoconferencing on September 3.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has charged Gujarat’s Minister of State for Home Affairs Amit Shah with murder,
extortion, kidnapping and criminal conspiracy.
The chargesheet filed in the Sohrabuddin encounter case spells out the role allegedly played by Shah and police officers in
the case, however, it remains vague about how the minister got mixed up with the murderous plot. The CBI probe against Shah, a close Modi aide, had rankled the BJP which recently refused to attend the customary lunch
organised by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the eve of the monsoon session beginning on Monday.
Meanwhile, the CBI had sought permission from the special court to obtain voice samples of five accused in the Sohrabuddin
Sheikh fake encounter case for comparing it with the gathered audio-video evidence.
An application in this regard was filed by the central probe agency in the CBI court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate
A. Y. Dave yesterday.
The CBI in its application has said it wanted to collect voice samples of five accused in the fake encounter case which
include suspended IPS officer Abhay Chudasama, N. K. Amin (who has offered to become an approver in the case) N V Chauhan,
and two absconding accused-Yashpal Chudasama and Ajay Patel.
Based on the application the court issued notices to Abhay Chudasama, Amin and Chauhan who are lodged in jail.
Further hearing on the matter is kept on September 20. (ANI)
