Actress Brooke Satchwell angry at Oz Governments response to Mumbai attacks
November 28th, 2008 - 12:34 pm ICT by ANI - Send to a friend: Mumbai, Nov.28 (ANI): The Australian Government has come in for a tongue lashing from actress Brooke Satchwell and her boyfriend in the wake of the multiple terror attacks on civilians in Mumbai.
The couple, who were staying at the Taj Mahal hotel in Mumbai, said they have been taking advice from the British and the Americans on the terror attacks, and were amazed at the lack of response of their own government to the unfolding tragedy.
Satchwell’’s boyfriend, film editor David Gross, told Channel 9 today: We have been taking our advice from the British and Americans. We have done all the right things, we have registered online and rang Canberra staff. But since then it’’s been very tricky. We keep calling to find out if there is going to be an evacuation. We go to the airport … and basically we don”t get any answers.”
Speaking from the Mumbai airport, Satchwell said they had not been able to move to another hotel because they were not taking new reservations.
The couple was on holiday in Mumbai, where Gross was preparing to make an Indian travel TV series.
They are now safely out of Mumbai and have flown to Singapore.
Prime Minister Kevin Rudd said he understood the couple’’s concerns but defended the efforts of the Australian authorities in Mumbai.
“Our authorities on the ground together with our authorities elsewhere are doing everything physically possible to assist people in difficult circumstances,” he said. (ANI)
