Abducted Afghan envoy freed in PeshawarSeptember 30th, 2008 - 10:14 am ICT by ANI
Peshawar , Sept 30 (ANI): After seven says of being abducted, Afghan envoy Abdul Khaliq Farahi was released last evening in Peshawar . He was brought to the city on Monday evening, the Daily Times quoted sources as saying.
Farahi , Afghanistan s consul general in Peshawar and ambassador-designate to Islamabad was kidnapped by armed men in Hayatabad on September 22.
Without revealing the exact location of his detention, sources said that he had been recovered and had arrived in Peshawar , added the paper.
The sources did not say whether he was released after the payment of a ransom or as a result of a deal. Cultural Attache at the Afghan Consulate in Peshawar , Noor Muhammad Atal reportedly said that the ambassador had been released, but he had not yet met with him.
Inspector General Police Malik Naveed and Capital City Police Chief Dr Suleman said they had not received details concerning the release of the kidnapped Afghan envoy.
Farahis driver Khalid was killed by the kidnappers after a brief scuffle. (ANI)
