Kolkata, Nov.9 (ANI): As Sourav Gangulys glorious international cricket career camed to an end on Sunday with a duck in Nagpur, his retirement drove a Kolkata-based musical band to come up with songs as a tribute to him.
Orchid, the musical Bangla band, has composed several songs to glorify Gangulys 13-year cricket career during which he put up a scintillating display and led India with aplomb.
The band members have given an everlasting salute to him through their music.
Their verses have eulogised his fighting spirit, his mental toughness and leadership quality.
“The Jaago India Jaago song, which we did for Sourav got an overwhelming response for it. The current song Sourav Aamaader Gaurav, which we are composing, is for his farewell. We hope Bengal is going to love this song,” said Tanvi Dutta, a member of the Orchid Band.
Band members say the way Souravs captaincy, leadership qualities, and a never-say-die attitude and incomparable determination during ups and downs in life, inspired them to compose the songs on him.
”Earlier, when he used to play, his team spirit was amazing. I am feeling bad that today would be his last game. Our band wishes that this game he should play with confidence and should score not only a century but also set a record so that all Bengalis feel proud of him. As a Bengali I will always be proud of him,” said Tanvi.
This Bangla band started its musical journey on June 1, 2003 and since then, these budding musicians have moved ahead with a motive to encourage Indian culture and heritage.
Orchid’’s speciality has been folk music and songs to spread modern social awareness.
During the 2007 World Cup, the band released an album Jaago India Jaago to cheer the India team and since then it became popular among the Bengali crowd. (ANI)
