Mumbai, May 21 (ANI) : Underworld don Dawood Ibrahim’s aide Abbas Mohammed Sameeza ,accused of facilitating the landing of arms and ammunition off the Gujarat coast for execution of the 1993 Mumbai blasts, was arrested in Mumbai on Tuesday .
Sameeza, had managed to deceive the police by changing his appearance and had been living in suburban Andheri for many years. He was arrested from his residence, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rakesh Maria said today.
“He had facilitated landing of weapons like AK-47 and other ammunition off the coast of Gujarat prior to the blasts. A part of the consignment was brought to Mumbai by Abu Salem and distributed to other accused including Sanjay Dutt,” Maria said.
Sameeza is involved in a case registered under the Terrorism and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA) at the Kalyanpur police station of Jamnagar district in Gujarat for facilitating the landing and will be handed over to the Gujarat police soon,she added.
Acting on a tip-off , police zeroed-in on Sameeza, who has shaved-off his beard and married a Maharashtraian lady.
The landing operations in Gujarat are not part of hearing carried out by a designated TADA court in the city. Extradited gangster Salem’s trial is undergoing currently at TADA court.
About 257 persons were killed and over 700 injured in a series of 12 explosions that rocked Mumbai on 12th March, 1993. The designated TADA court has awarded death sentence to 12 people and life imprisonment to 20 others for their involvement in blasts. (ANI)
