26 security agents killed afterm ambush in eastern India

RAIPUR, INDIA (BNO NEWS) – Twenty-six members of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were shot and killed by Naxals in a deadly ambush in Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh, local media reported on Tuesday.

The CRPF personnel were returning from road opening duties on foot when they were ambushed by the radical Maoists. The Naxals opened fire at the paramilitary men from a hilltop. At least 26 agents were killed; including four special police officers of Chhattisgarh Police along with CRPF were injured in the attack.

The paramilitary troops were ambushed near Daurai Road area in Narayanpur, about 300 kilometers from Raipur. The troops were from the 39th battalion of the force and were part of its E and F companies.

The Naxals are a Maoist communist group in India. They led the Naxalite-Maoist insurgency since 1967. They recently threatened that they will definitely have and armed movement in Calcutta by 2011.

This was the third major attack on the CRPF since the Maoist strike on a force contingent on April 6 in Dantewada, which resulted in the killing of 75 people and a local policeman.
