187 candidates fray for Puducherry assembly polls
March 31st, 2011 - 5:06 pm ICT by ANIPuducherry, Mar 31 (ANI): A total of 187 candidates are in the fray for April 13 Puducherry assembly elections.
Of the total 187 nominations, 162 are in Puducherry district comprising of Puducherry, Mahe and Yanam and the rest 25 are in Karaikal district.
Chief Minister V. Vaithilingam, State ministers E.Valsaraj, Shajahan, Namasivayam, Kandhasamy, Malladi Krishna Rao, speaker of the out going Assembly R.Radhakrishnan(all Congress), former Chief Minister R.V.Janakiraman (DMK) and former Chief minister and founder of the newly floated All India NR congress party N.Rangasamy are the prominent candidates left in the fray.
Being a small Union Territory with an electorate of just over eight lakh ten thousand voters, candidates rely on direct contacts with the voters.
