16 dead in Tripura refugee camp fire
March 20th, 2011 - 3:11 pm ICT by ANIAgartala (Tripura), Mar. 20 (ANI): At least 16 people, mostly children, were killed and many more got severe burn injuries in a fire incident that broke out in a refugee camp in Tripura.
Five of the injured are in critical condition.
The fire broke out on Saturday afternoon in a bamboo hut of the densely populated Naisingpara camp and soon spread to neighbouring houses.
Around 3000 hutments were gutted in the tragedy. The state government was trying to accommodate the displaced families in a nearby school.
Additional reinforcements have been rushed to the spot and fire fighters are still engaged in rescue operations. (ANI)
