15 J-K Govt employees for demanding uniform retirement age arrested

Srinagar , June 9 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir Police today arrested about 15 employees of the State-run entities who were demanding uniform retirement age for all Government employees in Srinagar .

The Government has fixed the retirement age of our employees at 58 years, whereas the retirement age of IAS and IPS bureaucrats is 60 years. We demand that the retirement age of all employees should be fixed as 60 years otherwise all employees should retire at 58 years,” said Abdul Qayoom Wani, President of Employees Joint Action Committee.

The employees lamented negligence on the part of State Government for ignoring their demands, which include uniform retirement age for all government employees including those belonging to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and the Indian Police Service (IPS).

The police baton-charged the protesting employees and also used water cannons having coloured water, to control them.

The protesters marched down the streets under the aegis of Employees Joint Action Committee, shouting slogans ‘We Want Justice’.

Employees’ organizations have been protesting in the recent past demanding release of their allowances, which have been accepted by the State Government. (ANI)
