13 killed in Kashmir accident (Lead)
November 12th, 2008 - 8:32 pm ICT by IANSJammu, Nov 12 (IANS) At least 13 people, including three women, were killed and 15 injured when the bus they were travelling in skidded off a mountainous road in Jammu and Kashmir Wednesday, the police and an eyewitness said.The bus was coming from Thathri to Pul Doda in the mountainous Doda district when it met with the accident at Karara and landed near the bank of the Chenab river.
The Police said 11 bodies were recovered.
An eyewitness said she saw two bodies being washed away in the gushing waters of the river.
Rescue operations have been launched and the injured were rushed to hospitals.
Accidents on the hilly tracks due to poor road conditions and bad maintenance of vehicles are common in the region.
