12th century stolen emerald idol of Lord Shiva recovered in Tamil Nadu
October 26th, 2009 - 8:38 pm ICT by ANIChennai, Oct.26 (ANI): A special wing of Tamil Nadu police has recovered a stolen emerald idol of Lord Shiva worth about 500 million rupees.
The idol has been reportedly recovered from two persons identified as A. Ramesh of Pudukkottai district and P.Senthil of Valangaiman town of the State.
“This emerald idol is very precious one which could be valued around 500 million rupees in the market was stolen from Tiruturaipundi temple and yesterday a special team of idol wing has arrested the main accused person Ramesh and Senthil,” said Additional Director General of police (Economic Offences Wing), G. Thialakavathi.
Stolen from Marundeeswarar Temple in Thiruthuraipoondi town in February this year, the idol dates back to the 12th century, officials said. (ANI)
