Hapur (UP), Jan 27 (ANI): At least 11 people were killed and many more were injured when two trucks collided here today.
The accident reportedly occurred when the trucks vying to out-speed each other collided around 3.20 a.m. (IST) in Hapur.
While six people died on the spot, police said, five succumbed to their injuries in the hospital.
“One of the trucks was coming from Rajasthan and was carrying sawdust. The other was ferrying labourers from Haryana to Hapur,” said Vijay Bhushan, Superintendent of Police, Ghaziabad.
According to eyewitnesses, the trucks were in a bad shape and looked as if the collision was “severe”.
Police say investigations are on and the cause of accident is yet to be ascertained. However, locals feel that reckless driving may have been the reason.
Also, foggy weather causing low visibility during early hours cannot be ruled out as cause of the mishap. (ANI)
