10 injured in Kashmir clashes (Lead)
June 13th, 2010 - 9:03 pm ICT by IANSSrinagar, June 13 (IANS) At least 10 people were injured Sunday as stone pelting mobs, for the second succcessive day, clashed with security personnel in this summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir over the death of a student during protests Friday, police said.
Irate mobs engaged police and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) troopers in Batmaloo, Bemina, Nowshera, Magarmal Bagh and Safa Kadal areas of the city as the security forces exercised restraint while dealing with the law and order situation here.
Restrictions were enforced for the second day in in areas falling under the jurisdiction of Khanyar, Rainawari, Nowhatta, S.R. Gunj and Safa Kadal police stations to prevent violence.
Clashes Saturday resulted in nearly 45 people, including 15 security men, being injured.
Official sources said the Jammu and Kashmir Police has ordered an internal enquiry to fix responsibility for the death of the teenager which triggered a fresh spate of violence in Srinagar.
Tufail Ahmad Mattoo, a Class 12 student, died in Rajouri Kadal area during clashes between the police and the stone pelters Friday.
Hardline separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani, who had been taken into preventive custody, was shifted to the Central Jail in the city early Sunday from Humhama police station.
Geelani was later shifted to the Soura Medical Institute for a check up.
According to party sources, Geelani has called for a Valley-wide shutdown Monday to express solidarity with the family of the killed student.
