Oct 15 (THAINDIAN NEWS) According to researchers, yoga may help fibromyalgia sufferers feel less pain, have less fatigue and relieve their anxiety. This was the results which were given by participants of a study on the disease and the effect yoga has on it which lasted or eight weeks.

Twenty-five women who had been previously diagnosed with the disease were placed in a yoga class which met once a week for eight weeks. Yoga combines gentle stretching and meditation. Another group made up of twenty eight women who had been diagnosed with fibromyalgia were places on a waiting list and told to continue their routine.

The yoga group showed improvement in both the physical and psychological issues which stem from the disease. They all reported less pain, tenderness, tiredness, nervousness, and they stated that they slept better and were in better states of mind.

James Carson, a clinical psychologist and pain specialist at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland stated, “The women were somewhat apprehensive when we started, but once they got into the rhythm of it they found it to be very helpful. They came back after the first week reporting less pain, better sleep and feeling encouraged for the first time in years. That type of change continued to build over the course of the program.”
