Dec 1, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Today is World AIDS Day. Being one of the most recognized international health days, several organizations are making an extra effort today to spread awareness about the deadliest disease in the history of mankind. As most of the NGOs and health organizations are making their plans to spread awareness, some of the leading international health organizations are giving new hopes.
Researchers of the United States have assured that the disease is moderating its pace. The propagation of the infection has decreased up to 20 percent world wide in the last ten years, while AIDS related deaths have also dropped to several folds in the last few years. The estimated statistics have revealed that 2.6 million people got newly affected to the disease in 2010, compared to the 3.1 million people infected in 1999. In 2009, more than 1.8 million people died due to AIDS, which was many fold less than 2.1 million in 2004. According to the UNAIDS, the 15 worst affected nations of the disease saw a 25% decrease in the new HIV infections, as enough awareness have been spread about the merits of safe sex. Michel Sidibe, executive director of UNAIDS was delighted to state that finally all the investments have yielded a good result. Now all they need to do is make an effort to accelerate this progress.
U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator Ambassador, Eric Goosby said that world AIDS Day is a day of both remembrance and celebration. It is a day to remember those, who lost their lives due to the disease, while it is a day of celebration for those, whose lives have been saved due to the global efforts to combat HIV and AIDS. His organization took a more stringent resolution to make smarter investments and save more lives in the years to come.
