Woodland ties with Unicef to provide safe drinking water
September 1st, 2011 - 7:40 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Sep 1 (IANS) Apparel brand Woodland has partnered with Unicef to provide safe drinking water to families in Chandrapur district in eastern Maharashtra.
“As part of the alliance, Woodland has started a customer fundraising programme and has offered to raise donations from its customers for Unicef to benefit more than 8,000 children and families in Chandrapur district,” a statement by Woodland said Thursday.
The partnership of four months duration started in July.
Karin Hulshof of Unicef said: “Children weakened by diarrhoea are more vulnerable to malnutrition and infections such as pneumonia. Clean, safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene in schools is the right of every child.”
“This partnership leverages the strengths of the corporate sector on behalf of Maharashtra’s children,” she added.
The alliance contributes to one of the central government’s flagship programmes, the Total Sanitation Campaign (TSC). Maharashtra is a priority state, constituting eight percent of the government’s total sanitation target, the statement added.
