Woman dies of swine flu in West Bengal (Lead)
July 29th, 2010 - 12:05 am ICT by IANSKolkata, July 28 (IANS) West Bengal recorded its second swine flu death Wednesday as a 61-year-old woman succumbed to the Influenza A HINI virus, while nine more people tested positive for the disease, a health official said.
“Today (Wednesday) a 61-year-old has died,” said Asit Biswas, state nodal officer for swine flu. The victim had been admitted in a private hospital.
A 58-year-old man had died last week due to swine flu.
Nine people tested positive for swine flu, taking the number of confirmed cases of the contagious disease to 82 in the state this year, the health department said.
A total 26 people are admitted to several hospitals due to swine flu and four of them are critical, the department said in a statement. In 2009, a total of 135 people were affected by swine flu in the state.
However, there were no casualties.
