Woman dies as nurses perform operation
October 23rd, 2010 - 4:36 pm ICT by IANSHyderabad, Oct 23 (IANS) A pregnant woman died at a government-run hospital in Andhra Pradesh Saturday after nurses allegedly conducted a caesarean operation in the absence of a gynaecologist.
The incident took place at Suryapet Area Hospital in Nalgonda district. The condition of M. Rajita, 32, deteriorated during the operation and the nurses got her shifted to Nalgonda District Hospital, where she died.
The nurses were caught on camera conducting the operation. But it was not clear who filmed the scene and passed it on to some television channels.
The relatives of the deceased, carrying her body, staged a protest outside the hospital demanding action against the nurses and hospital superintendent.
In Hyderabad, P. Koteswara Rao, commissioner, Andhra Pradesh Vaidya Vidhana Parishad (APVVP), one of the divisions of health department, ordered an inquiry into the incident.
