Wipro unveils platform to speed up drug development
October 5th, 2010 - 11:25 pm ICT by IANSBangalore, Oct 5 (IANS) India’s IT bellwether Wipro Technologies late Tuesday announced a rapid trials platform to accelerate drug development cycle worldwide in partnership with Oracle Life Sciences.
“Our rapid trials platform, based on Oracle software, enables business process integration across drug development life cycle,” Wipro vice-president for manufacturing and life sciences business unit N.S. Bala said in a statement here.
The open standards platform improves data collection speed and quality by creating a cost-effective and secure worldwide infrastructure.
“The platform will facilitate research organisations to conduct global trials by using our business process outsourcing (BPO) services, including clinical operations support and managed IT infrastructure,” Bala said.
The Oracle-based platform also reduces the cost of ownership by 30-40 percent, as resources are shared across trials without having to maintain in-house capital equipment and clinical operations.
“We have deployed an end-to-end clinical development environment for clients to utilise the platform on a trial-by-trial or a specific time-based pricing model,” Bala said.
The platform is suited to small and mid-sized pharmaceutical sponsors and contract research organisations, which need to standardise clinical data collection process and operational parameters across studies and regions.
“Many enterprises find it challenging to deliver and standardise electronic data management and data capture processes across partner channels spanning multiple geographies,” Oracle’s Health Sciences global business unit general manager Neil De Crescenzo noted.
The rapid trials solution is developed and designed to maximise return on investment to sponsors and provide faster time to develop drugs safe, the statement added.
