Whole Kids foundation to focus on childhood health
July 28th, 2011 - 12:58 am ICT by Aishwarya BhattAustin, Texas, July 27 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Just as US McDonald’s announced that they will give fruit for every Happy Meal purchased another food company is taking a step to ensure that US children get to eat healthy food by launching a charitable organization.
Whole Foods Market Inc. has launched the Whole Kids Foundation which is aimed at ensuring that children drop the junk food and eat healthy foods. The co-CEO of World Foods, Walter Robb, announced that, “We are excited to formalize our commitment to improving childhood nutrition and wellness through our new Foundation. By collaborating with schools and parents, we believe we can increase fruit and vegetable consumption both at schools and at home and make a significant contribution in the fight against childhood obesity.”
World Foods is based in Austin, Texas and the company has been involved in promoting organic and natural groceries. The company in the past has been involved in the improvement of school lunches in the United States.
Child obesity is a major problem in several advanced countries including the United States. Obesity is blamed for several health problems including heart diseases, diabetes and stroke. First Lady Michelle Obama has launched a campaign to fight against child obesity in the United States.
