New York, Apr 13 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A new study reveals that white bread, white rice and pizza are likely to double chances of heart disease in women. Other foods, which are rich in carbohydrates may also double chances of heart disease in women, as they cause the blood sugar levels to increase.

The other surprising thing was that the carbohydrate-rich foods didn’t have the same effect on men. This may be because their bodies might be digesting and processing the carbohydrates in a different way, than the bodies of the women. Researchers also said that carbohydrates, which had a high glycemic index foods, caused problems in women’s bodies, but they don’t seem to have the same effect on the men’s bodies.

Carbohydrates, which had a low glycemic index, for example fruit and pasta, didn’t cause any medical problems at all, as they didn’t increase the chances of heart disease. Researchers also said that, the heart risk is probably caused “not by a diet high in carbohydrates, but by a diet rich in rapidly absorbed carbohydrates.”

“A high consumption of carbohydrates from high glycemic index foods, rather than the overall quantity of carbohydrates consumed, appears to influence the risk of developing coronary heart disease,” according to the scientists.
