Savannah, Georgia, June 13, (THAINDIAN NEWS) There is some real good news for those who suffer from peanut allergies. It has come to light that federal prosecutors are contemplating putting restrictions or even completely banning serving peanuts on commercial flights. Federal prosecutors are considering peanut ban in airlines keeping in mind the 1.8 million citizens of America who suffer from allergies due to the otherwise popular snack.
Although the new initiative that might be taken by the federal prosecutors has been welcomed in many quarters, it has attracted the ire of food packagers as well as peanut farmers, who have emphasized that the venture would be overreaching and have also went on to describe it as unfair.
The attempt of the federal prosecutors to restrict or ban peanuts from commercial flights came in the limelight after the U.S. Transportation Department issued a notice sometime last week which stated that it has been collecting responses from people suffering from peanut allergies, medical experts, the food industry as well as the public in general regarding whether the ban should be implemented or not.
Bill Mosely, a spokesperson of the department has revealed that it is only reacting to concerns of the travelers suffering from peanut allergy which includes some of those who are scared to fly fearing exposure to peanut.
In the meantime, the proposed initiative has received support from travelers suffering from peanut allergies, many of whom feel that it would play an immensely important role in reducing their fears as well as the potential harm that the snack can cause them upon exposure.
