July 22nd, 2009 - 4:21 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Abu Dhabi, July 22 (IANS) The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has unveiled a plan to stop the spread of influenza A(H1N1) virus, also called swine flu, in the country, the WAM news agency reported.
Besides keeping a close watch on the visitors at the country’s airports for swine flu patients, the authorities would also educate people about the disease.
Health Minister Hanif Hassan said the synergy between the health and interior ministries will have a far-reaching impact in preventing the spread of the virus.
He added that his ministry is stepping up efforts with other stakeholders to keep the country free of the virus.
Salim Al Junabi, director of medical services, said people will be educated on the symptoms of the disease and preventive measures.
Obeid Al Kitbi, deputy commander general of Abu Dhabi Police, said the modern health care services and health awareness among people would serve as the first line of defence against the H1N1 virus.
All swine flu patients in the country have been fully recovered and leading a normal life, the report said Tuesday, citing the minister said.
“With the start of the busy summer travel season, the health ministry will step up cooperation with the interior ministry to handle the massive rush of passengers at the country’s seaports, airports and at the land border crossings,” Hassan added.
Abu Dhabi Health Authority (HAAD) chairman Ahmed Al Mazrouie said the hospitals in the capital are ready to handle any number of swine flu cases.
