UAE charity starts immunisation programme in Indonesia

Jakarta, Oct 13 (IANS) A charity in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has started a vaccination programme to help people fight contagious diseases in Indonesia, WAM news agency reported Tuesday.
The UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA) has begun administering vaccines against measles, chicken pox and tetanus in the Kota Pariaman province of Indonesia as part of the relief operations to help the quake affected people there.

The weeklong immunisation programme is conducted in collaboration with the local authorities.

The programme will cover 18,000 people, including 8,000 school children in the region.

Provincial Governor Mukhlis Rahman has lauded the humanitarian initiative launched by the UAE.

More than 400 people have been killed in the devastating earthquake, measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale, in Indonesia last month.
