New York, July 9, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Johnson & Johnson on Thursday announced that it is going to expand a recall that involves over-the-counter drugs like Motrin IB and Tylenol. McNeil Consumer Healthcare business which is a section of the company said that it will be recalling several versions of Tylenol including Tylenol Day & Night and Tylenol Extra Strength.
The products are being recalled as they have been found to be smelly and a number of people have become sick after using them. The users of these drugs have suffered from symptoms like diarrhea, vomiting, stomach pain as well as nausea. After investigation it has been found out that the particular smell is related to a chemical used in a Puerto rico facility.
The expansion of the recall comes as a blow for Johnson & Johnson which is known for its dominance in the healthcare products in the global market. Since last year, it also recalled a number of other products. Reportedly, McNeil Consumer Healthcare business did not inform the FDA timely about the products that are being recalled. The recall series have taken the consumers by alarm. They are worried that a company like Johnson & Johnson is recalling a vast number of these widely used medicines.
The products that are being recalled can be returned to the shops and thereafter the customers will get refunded. However, they are not very happy about the company’s offer to reimburse them. Elaine Gansz Bobo, a spokeswoman for Food and Drug Administration said that it is inspecting the recalls being made by McNeil. She said that the risk of additional threat from this recall is minimal.
