Two more test positive for swine flu in Chandigarh

Chandigarh, Aug 30 (IANS) Two more positive cases of influenza A (H1N1) virus were reported here Sunday, health officials said.
H.C. Gera, union territory nodal officer for swine flu, told IANS: “Throat and nasal swabs samples of two women have tested positive in the labs of PGIMER (Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research) here today (Sunday).”

“One of the women is a resident of Chandigarh whereas the other is a resident of neighbouring Panchkula town. Both of them are in the age group of 25 to 30 years and our health officials are investigating their travel history,” he added.

With the detection of these two new cases, the total number of positive swine flu cases in Chandigarh has reached 17.

So far, over 150 suspected cases have been reported here but no casualty from this disease has been reported in this region.

Meanwhile, a four-month old female infant tested positive of swine flu in Ambala town of Haryana, some 45 km from here, Sunday.

“We had sent her samples to the NICD (National Institute of Communicable Disease), New Delhi, and her report has come positive today. Seeing her condition, the doctors have referred her to PGIMER in Chandigarh,” said a Haryana health official here.
