Two engineering students contract swine flu
November 25th, 2009 - 1:39 pm ICT by IANSChandigarh, Nov 25 (IANS) Two more students of Punjab Engineering College (PEC), the region’s oldest and biggest engineering college, tested positive for influenza A (H1N1) virus, an official said Wednesday.
The PEC, situated in Sector 12 here, was opened a few days back after being closed for a week after its students exhibited flu-like symptoms.
Earlier, six students tested positive for the virus.
“We collected nasal and throat swab samples of these patients and their reports have come positive. One of them stays in the college campus,” said H.C. Gera, the nodal officer for swine flu in Chandigarh.
He added that both students had been quarantined.
So far, nearly 500 suspected swine flu cases have been reported here since June. Of them, nearly 125 have tested positive, including 60 students.
