Santa Clara, California, March 25, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Few people will disagree to the fact that toys are the soul mates of many kids. This fact is also not hidden from people who are into marketing of fast food business. McDonalds’ “Happy Meal” provides gifts toys to kids who prefer the high calorie meal over other choices. It is this fact that Ken Yeager, president of the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors wants to change. Ken Yeager wants restaurant to stop luring children to consume the high calorie food by providing them with toys. Out of 12 high calorie menus for children, 10 include gifts according to Ken Yeager. The Santa Clara County supervisor is trying to stop or at least restrict any such allurements for kids.
The step has been taken to cope up with the increasing case of child obesity. The child obesity case has taken a toll in United States and the number is still increasing. According to Ken Yeager, this is a serious issue. Ken Yeager has reportedly said that it is not expected of a kid to understand the calorie count of the food he is consuming, he is attracted to the toy which comes with the food and ends up having a high calorie meal. Ken Yeager had previously made it mandatory for the local restaurants of Santa Clara to mention the calorie count of the food in the menu of the restaurant.
However, the California Restaurant Association grudged on such a step as they feel it will hamper the marketing strategy. One of its member reportedly said that restaurants also offer salad, fruit juice and other healthy foods in the children’s menu.
