Nov 8, (THAINDIAN NEWS) With the flu season approaching, people all over the world have been scrambling the web to get details about how to stay healthy. According to Center For Disease control, around 10 to 20 percent of Americans get flu each season. They also revealed that more than 200,000 get hospitalized due to flu and 36,000 die out of the complications each year.
The doctors have said that if people stick to the basics they can stay clear throughout the season without getting affected. People need to keep in mind that they need to follow basic rules like regular washing of hands and taking adequate rest and liquids. To prevent a re-run of the H1N1 epidemic, the CDC has recommended that all the people above the age of 6 should get the vaccine. They also said that flu shots are necessary for the high risk groups that include people above the age of 65, children below five, people with history of respiratory, digestive or immune system related problems and pregnant women.
Some of the other suggestions that have been made by the doctors includes covering one’s nose and mouth with hand or handkerchief while coughing or sneezing. People should also be aware of the differences between the symptoms of common cold and that of flu. Though both are respiratory diseases, flu can cause a number of other symptoms that could lead to pneumonia unlike common cold. In case one is infected by the flu one must also change one’s diet to fight the infection better. Shellfish, fatty fish and raw garlic are recommended for those already affected by the virus as they increase the body’s ability to fight the virus.
