Three new swine flu cases in Chandigarh
August 30th, 2009 - 2:07 pm ICT by IANSChandigarh, Aug 30 (IANS) Three new swine flu cases — an NRI and two teenage boys — have been reported here, taking the number of people infected with the H1N1 virus in this city to 15, health officials said here Sunday.
A 14-year-old boy, a resident of neighbouring Panchkula town who returned from Hong Kong a few days back, is one of the patients. He had contacted doctors of the government hospital here in Sector 32 Thursday with complaints of a runny nose and high fever.
The second is a 28-year-old resident of Britain who had come to Chandigarh to meet her relatives. Another 14-year-old boy, whose father had returned from Mumbai recently, has also caught the virus, the official said.
“We have quarantined all the patients at their homes. We have diagnosed them properly and their condition is stable. There is no need to panic and the situation is well under our control,” said H.C. Gera, the nodal officer for swine flu in Chandigarh.
“We have also quarantined the family members of these three patients, who had come in contact with them,” he added
Besides, five new suspected cases of swine flu were reported in Chandigarh hospitals Saturday.
So far, over 150 suspected cases of swine flu have been reported in Chandigarh and 15 of them have tested positive. There has been no fatality reported from this disease in the region.
Meanwhile, the virology department of the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) here has extended its diagnostic services to Punjab, Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir.
