‘Take Charge Take Care’ is a guidebook for Heroin users
January 5th, 2010 - 1:21 am ICT by Aishwarya BhattNew York City, Jan 4 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The New York City has funded a guidebook for heroin users, which is called ‘Take Charge Take Care’. It is a step-by-step instruction guidebook on how to inject a person with heroin safely. It also offers information on how to prepare the drugs carefully and care for veins in order to avoid infection.
The state’s top official with the Drug Enforcement Administration says that the “Take Charge Take Care” guide is a “step-by-step instruction on how to inject a poison.” DEA special agent-in-charge John Gilbride says that the handout is disturbing. The city’s Department of Health and Mental Hygiene has printed about 70,000 copies of the guidebooks. However a health official says that the goal is to promote health and save lives. Assistant Commissioner Daliah Heller says instructions on how to perform injections were included because there’s “a less harmful way to inject.”
Besides this the illustrated Heroin guidebook also offers information on HIV testing and the dangers of sharing needles.
