Swine Flu On The Rise In India

swine-fluThe H1N1 virus(Swine Flu) is fast spreading its tentacles in India with already six deaths having occurred in the recent days. On Sunday, officials had confirmed two deaths to have occurred in the nation, which had taken up the toll to four. By Monday morning, two more deaths have been reported, those of a 35 year old Ayurvedic doctor and a four year old boy. The official figure therefore is six. The government is reportedly working on all possible measures in order to contain the fast spreading virus of the epidemic flu.

According to the spokesperson of the federal health ministry, the most recent of the deaths have been in reported in from the states of Maharashtra, Chennai and Gujarat. One of the deaths has been that of a 43 year old man, who is said to have arrived in Gujarat from US on July 31. The Press Trust of India news agency said that the other victim has been a 42 year school teacher from Maharashtra.

The Ayurvedic medic, Babasahib Mane is said to have died in the Sasoon Hospital in Pune, taking the death toll for the state of Maharashtra alone to three. Till now, Maharashtra has been the worst hit state in the country, where the scare for the deadly flu is on the rise.

“Mane had pneumonia in both his lungs when he was brought here on August 7 from a private hospital and was unable to breathe. He was put ventilator immediately on arrival,” said Dr. Arun Jamkar, the dean of the Sasoon Hospital.

In Chennai, the death of the four year old boy has been the first reported case.
