Swine flu claims another life in Andhra Pradesh
June 22nd, 2010 - 8:25 pm ICT by IANSHyderabad, June 22 (IANS) A pregnant woman succumbed to the H1N1 virus here Tuesday, taking the toll to two since last week in Andhra Pradesh, officials said.
The relatives of the 28-year-old woman, who hailed from Medak district, alleged that she was not given proper treatment at the Gandhi Hospital, where she had been admitted a few days back.
This is the second death due to swine flu since the first case was reported last week.
A 32-year-old man, who was undergoing treatment since June 14 at a private hospital in Visakhapatnam, died Friday.
State Health Minister D. Nagender told reporters here that 16 suspected swine flu cases were reported during the last 10 days.
“Seven of them tested positive for H1N1. They are undergoing treatment and are stable,” he said.
Nagender said the situation was under control and there was no need for panic. He stressed the need to create awareness among people about the virus and precautions to be taken.
He said a swine flu screening centre will soon be opened at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport here to screen passengers.
As many as 54 people died of swine flu in the state last year. Nearly 800 cases were reported.
The first swine flu case in India was detected at Hyderabad airport May 16 last year.
