Kolkata, Aug 13 (IANS) The total number of confirmed swine flu cases in West Bengal rose to 19 Thursday night, with six new cases during the day, officials said.
“We’ve received six fresh cases today. All of them have been admitted to the Beliaghata Infectious Diseases (ID) Hospital here,” Tapas Sen, the state’s nodal officer for swine flu, told IANS.
The new patients included Rajesh Kumar Singh, a Jharkhand resident who had come here on personal work. Rajesh was suffering from fever, body ache and cough and cold for the past few days, and came to the hospital Wednesday and underwent the tests.
“We got his reports today. He has tested positive,” Sen said.
Singh had visited Mumbai, which is badly hit by swine flu, a few days back.
Sen said while 11 people are now admitted to the designated hospital, eight confirmed swine flu cases have been discharged after treatment.
Meanwhile, the central health ministry will hold 10-day medical camps across the state from Aug 16 to create awareness among people about the swine flu infection.
“The swine flu detection camps would begin from Aug 16 and would be carried out across all districts of West Bengal. These camps would be held at various government hospitals,” Railways Minister Mamata Banerjee told the Bengali news channel Star Ananda over telephone.
Banerjee said health was a state government subject and it should also think to improve the existing manpower in all its hospitals.
