Swine flu cases in Uttar Pradesh rise to 16
August 13th, 2009 - 1:02 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, Aug 13 (IANS) The number of people infected with influenza A (H1N1) in Uttar Pradesh has risen to 16 with a person in capital Lucknow testing positive for the viral disease, officials said Thursday.
One of the three samples tested at the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) here was found to be positive Wednesday.
“The latest case of swine flu is in Lucknow, where the number of those infected had gone up to 11,” SGPGIMS microbiology department head T.N. Dhole told IANS.
Tests on 27 fresh samples are pending at SGPGIMS, the state’s only authorised laboratory to test the virus.
Lucknow chief medical officer A.K. Shukla said none of those infected with swine flu have been hospitalised.
“Their families chose to keep them quarantined in their homes. We are ensuring adequate supply of medicine and also maintaining a round-the-clock vigil on each of them,” he said.
