Study reveals that jogging helps in losing belly fat
August 31st, 2011 - 6:58 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattNew York, Aug 31 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A new research has concluded that jogging is effective in losing belly fat. The researchers rated jogging ahead of weightlifting with regards to losing weight. The research was conducted over a period of eight months.
The researchers studied 196 subjects during the study. All the subjects were between the ages of 18 and 70. They were divided into three groups: aerobic group, resistance group and a group made of the combination of the two groups.
The group in the aerobic group was made to jog an equivalent of 12 miles every week. Their jogging was adjusted to 80 percent of their heart maximum rate. The members in the resistance group had eight to 12 repetitions every week.
After the period, the two groups were compared to determine which of them had lost the most belly fat. Lead author and exercise physiologist Cris Slentz explained that, “Resistance training is great for improving strength and increasing lean body mass. But if you are overweight, which two-thirds of the population is, and you want to lose belly fat, aerobic exercise is the better choice because it burns more calories.”
The study and findings were published on the 25th of August in the journal American Journal of Physiology.
The research concluded that the aerobic group lost 67 percent more calories than the resistance group.
